Father and Son go solo on bank holiday monday PDF Print E-mail

Image Early in the morning on the August bank holiday 2008, father and son both called Mike Healey went solo in the bright yellow Gyrocopter owned by the Gyrocopter Experience.  This was a day that they had waited for, for some time.

They were passed to fly solo about 6 weeks ago but due to the bad August weather they had to wait until today (25th August) before they could actually take to the skies alone.

When they arrived at the airfield, Mike (son) flew 3 perfect circuits with instructor Phil Harwood.  It was hard to believe that he had not flown for a few weeks, every take off and landing were superb.  He taxied out and flew 2 circuits before coming back to the apron with his huge Gyrocopter Grin.

Then it was time for his dad.  He also flew with Phil for 3 circuits and again his flying was up to his usual high standard,  the wind was getting slightly stronger but it was right down the runway, so no problems, he taxied off on his own and flew a great circuit.

They now have about 10 more hours of solo work before they can sit their General Flying Tests, they intend flying all this week so it may not be long.
