Hi

Welcome to the May 2013 Gyrocopter Experience Newsletter with gyroplane news, updates and information from the UK and around the world.

Nick gets his Cavalon, Kevin picks one up too

The 1st of May was a great day for Gyrocopters in the UK. Gerry Speich, MD of Rotorsport UK announced that the Cavalon has now been certified to Section T and it is now available in the UK.

The countdown for Nick Wright in Devon is over, he now has a shiny new Cavalon available for training. This is something unique to Nick at The Gyrocopter Experience - Devon as no other flying school in the UK currently has a school Cavalon available for training.

Nick is thrilled. `I love flying the open cockpit Gyro, but now having the comfort of enclosed flying means that I have the best of both worlds. Come on over and have a play` says Nick.

On the same day, Kevin Robinson (The Gyrocopter Experience - Algarve) collected a Cavalon on behalf of one of his customers. `It`s simply superb`, says Kevin, `what a great day for us.`

M24 Orion now available at Salisbury

Not wanting to be left out, Steve Boxall announced that he now has a Magni M24 Orion available for trial flights and training at The Gyrocopter Experience - Salisbury.

Steve, who leads the way in the UK with training on Magni Gyro machines has been training on the open cockpit M16 for a number of years. Steve really believes that the M16 and the M24Gyrocopters are in a class of their own.

Steve can`t resist the play on words: `the M16 and the M24 really are Magni-ficent!`

Steve will be at the Bath and West Show later this month, exhibiting Magni machines. If you live in the area, pop along and see him.

Friedrichshafen. The International Association of Professional Gyroplane Training

Last month we promised to bring you the hot news from Aero Friedrichshafen in this month's newsletter. Phil and Kati from The Gyrocopter Experience - York popped over to Germany for a couple of days to take in the show.

The big news in the Gyrocopter world was the official launch of the International Association of Professional Gyroplane Training.

This is an Association for all Gyro pilots, instructors, student pilots, manufacturers and regulators of Gyroplane activity with an objective of creating and promoting worldwide standards of Gyroplane flying and instruction. The aim is to continually improve safety of Gyroplane flying, worldwide.

The Gyrocopter Experience are proud to be one of the sponsors of this International Project. We urge every gyro pilot in the world to become a member. There is a wealth of knowledge to learn and share. The Association also provides software tools to integrate Instructor led student training records with self-study online training. It's not just for instructors and students though, every Gyro pilot would benefit and learn something, with a system of reminders and checklists to help keep you legal and properly prepared when you go flying.

You can register for safety related Gyro information and more information on the Association at their website www.iapgt.org (or the easier to remember GyrocopterTraining.org)

Friedrichshafen, the Electric Cavalon

The most interesting innovation from the manufacturers was the debut of an electrically powered Cavalon. Pictured here is the engine bay, which does not have a Rotax engine in it, instead is has an electric motor.

It is still early days in this project however it is a proof of concept. The big questions is.... where do the batteries go and how long do they last?

Another new project to keep Gerry busy?

Must Fly!
