Hi

Welcome to the Spring 2015 Gyrocopter Experience Newsletter with gyroplane news, updates and information from the UK and around the world.

More Demand - More Instructors

With so much demand for Gyrocopter Training, Ten enthusiastic pilots have completed part one of this years Instructor Course at the Instructor Training Academy in York.

It takes about six weeks of intensive training to turn a great pilot into a qualified instructor and, despite how they look in the photograph :-), these guys (and gal) are the pick of the crop and working towards being able to share their passion for Gyros with others later this year.

The first part of the course is held in the classroom where the candidates have to practice and present briefings to their peer group. The second part of the course, which they start after they pass a flying skills test will take place over the next few months.

Places are already booking for the 2016 class which starts in November this year, so if you want to reserve a place please contact Kati on 0845 643 9476.

If you dream that some day, you may be a flying instructor and want to find out more, please call Kati to reserve a place on our one day seminar on 9th May 2015.

If you want to fly one of these great aircraft, or train to be a pilot, or have any questions about Gyrocopters please contact Kati or one of the instructors at our locations. Click here for contact details.

New Gyrocopter Experience School opening in East London

Owen Brooking, who has been instructing at The Gyrocopter Experience York is now setting up his own Gyrocopter Flying School at Damyns Hall, East London.

Owen says, I used to be a teacher in a local school and I really enjoy teaching. For me, Gyrocopter flying is the best experience in the world so being able to teach people to fly is just amazing.

I have really enjoyed working in York where I also did my initial instructor training however the time is right for me to go and set up my own school.

Owen's diary is already filling up, he can be contacted on 07473 816108.

Upgraded Facilities at Popham

Steve Boxall at Popham is keen to show off his new briefing room. Steve moved from Old Sarum to Popham, in Basingstoke, last year and has never been busier.

Popham is a great place to operate from and I have recently added a new hangar says Steve. I was lacking good classroom facilities but that has been sorted now - I am delighted with my new briefing room.

To book training with Steve and be one of the first to try out his new facilities, call 07905 059789.

Students Arriving Two byTwo in Oxford

Gyrocopter Experience Oxford are feeling the benefit of having two full-time instructors with a couple of opportunities to train side-by-side in recent months.

Cavalon and Calidus owners Colin Rodney and Chris Rose were able to gain ratings in each other's machines on the same day; Clive training Chris in Colin's Cavalon, while Andy trained Colin in Chris's Calidus.

More recently, Kevin and Andrea from the Fly-By-Light Microlight school at Elstree started training with Andy and Clive. Last week both solo'd on the same day; this week, they've just completed their first navigation exercise - somewhat different in a gyro compared with the Ikarus microlight they're accustomed to.

Gyrocopters in Dubai

As the reputation of Gyrocopter Experience continues to grow globally both in terms of strength of numbers we continue to receive requests for assistance around the world.

Kevin Robinson, Gyrocopter Experience Algarve, has recently responded to one of these requests and is currently on secondment to Sky Dive Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Kevin reports. This is my fourth trip overseas providing support and expertise to gyro operations. My first 3 years ago was to assist setting up the first Gyro school in Turkey, this was followed by 2 trips to Kenya to provide training and advice on a Gyro anti poaching operation. The latest event is to help set an operation in Dubai based by the beautiful Palm.

Kevin will be returning to Portugal in June to continue his training there.

Gyrocopters in Holland

From Holland we can mention that the first factory built Autogyro has been registered in the Netherlands: an orange Cavalon 914UL with full specs. Issuing the registration of PH-4L5 concludes a period of 5 years which were needed to organize the Dutch regulation to make this possible.

The Cavalon is based at Airport Breda International in the south-west of the Netherlands . This is also the airport the Gyrocopter Experience - Netherlands is using as a second location for their training.

One great sport....lots of great locations

The Gyrocopter Experience operate in Scotland, Northern Ireland, York, Devon, London Area (3 Locations) as well as the Algarve, the Netherlands and Costa Rica. Click on the names of the locations on the Gyrocopter Experience homepage for more details. We expect to open two more locations in the UK and one in Canada later this year. Watch this space for details.

Must Fly!
