Hi

Welcome to the May 2014 Gyrocopter Experience Newsletter with gyroplane news, updates and information from the UK and around the world.

Flying event this weekend at Popham

It is the start of the fly-in season. The time of year when airfields invite pilots and enthusiasts to visit them. The largest fly-in in the south of England at this time of year is at Popham, held this weekend (3rd/4th May).

As the British Rotorcraft Association are holding their Annual General Meeting on Sunday 4th, the event is expected to attract a lot of Gyrocopters as their pilots flock from airfields and farm strips around the country.

A number of our instructors and pilots are expected to attend. Pop along to the event for a chat, we will be congregating around the British Rotorcraft Association marquee.

You can find more information on the Popham fly-in here and the British Rotorcraft Association AGM here.

Our first Gyrocopter goes to a new home

Our very first Gyrocopter G-CEHN has retired from our flying school in York and moved to a new home in Inverness to start a new life with a private owner.

G-HN has done us proud in the school at York having safely looked after 43 students who have flown her solo, which is likely to be a record for any Gyrocopter in the UK. In 2009 she was one of four Gyrocopters that flew from York to Hldesheim in Germany and back again (you can read about that adventure here).

This is also the Gyrocopter that was used to design our brand and logo and is also featured on the front cover of the book Flying a New Generation Gyrocopter, the best selling Gyrocopter book by Phil Harwood.

We are sorry to see her go but delighted that she has been given a new lease of life. Fly safe HN!

Fly-in at Carrickmore 10th-11th May

The Gyrocopter Experience Carrickmore, near Omargh in Northern Ireland will be participating in the Carrickmore Flying Club fly-in event on Saturday 10th - Sunday 11th May 2014.

The event is intended for Gyrocopter and Microlight pilots and they are encouraged to fly to the event. In addition, an open invitation is extended to everyone to come and meet the club members and friends of the airfield. It will be a great day out for enthusiasts. For further details and PPR please contact Ian Thompson at C-More Flying Club on 07748 836773

There will be limited availability to fly with our resident Gyrocopter Instructor Gerard on the day so it is advisable to contact him in advance. You can contact Gerard at gerard.mcaleer@GyrocopterExperience.com. In the event that the weather is not suitable on 10/11May, the event will be rescheduled to 24th-25th May.

Reminders for pilots

A quick reminder for all pilots to check the renewal dates for their certificate of experience in their licence and logbook. Remember that in the UK you have to revalidate your licence every two years. If you have flown at least 12 hours and had at least 1 hour of refresher training with an instructor in the past year, you can ask any Gyrocopter examiner to revalidate your licence.

Why not check the dates of your licence expiry and at the same time check the expiry dates of your medical, insurance and aircraft permit documents. Incidentally, if you are a member of The International Association of Professional Gyroplane Training (IAPGT), they will automatically remind you when these dates are due. Must Fly!
