Hi

Welcome to the July 2013 Gyrocopter Experience Newsletter with gyroplane news, updates and information from the UK and around the world.

Superb Weather for Gyrocopter Flying

The current unseasonal weather (who would have imagined that we might see the sun in July?) has set the phones ringing at Gyrocopter Experience locations all over the UK and we are having the time of our lives!

It's not too late to book yourself an experience flight or flying lesson to take advantage of the blue skies and sensational views - so call now to book in and don't miss out on this great opportunity to see the countryside at its best. Click here for a list of contact numbers.

Notes for Gyrocopter Owners and Pilots

If you are a Gyrocopter Pilot in the UK then you should be aware of (or remind yourself of) some information provided by the CAA.

Firstly, the CAA have recently announced that the requirement for an annual flight test for permit renewal is no longer mandatory and is at the discretion of your service engineer. This is great news and helps reduce the running costs for the majority of aircraft.

Secondly, anyone who has been out flying and taking advantage of the recent fine weather in the UK is likely to have experienced first-hand the effects of high temperatures and light winds on gyroplane take-off performance. This is a very good time to review the contents of the CAA's Gyroplane Handling sense leaflet and to take extra care when considering runway lengths and aircraft loading.

New Instructor Qualifies in the UK

Dick Trickey, a Gyrocopter pilot from Aberdeenshire has qualified as a Gyrocopter Flying Instructor having completed his Instructor course. Dick has a long history of rotary wing flying, his jobs have included commercial helicopter flying to and from oil rigs in the North sea in all types of weather.

Dick is now waiting for his paperwork to be processed by the CAA so that he can start teaching new pilots. He will start his Gyro teaching career working at The Gyrocopter Experience at York and in Perth and then hopes to set up his own flying school in Aberdeen.

Well done Dick, you now have the best job in the world!

IAPGT Launches Instructor Training in the UK

The International Association of Professional Gyroplane Training (IAPGT) is scheduling Instructor Training courses around the world. 24 Local Beaver Scouts visit The Gyrocopter Experience

On Tuesday 18th June, 24 Beever Cub Scouts aged between 6 and 8 years old visited The Gyrocopter Experience at York. Activities included a very entertaining question and answer session (kids of this age ask the most amazing questions), a short film in The Gyro Cinema, a look around the Gyro Museum, a photo session sitting in one of the Gyros and a quiz relating to the different types of Gyro available in the UK.

Scout leader Gareth Barker said `we had a fantastic time, not only did the kids love it but we also had a large turn out of parent helpers who took part in the activities. The visit helps to open the children's eyes to aviation and was part of their tasks towards their Air Activities badge.`

Must Fly!
