What's special about us?
We are unique! The Gyrocopter Experience York is the only location in the UK where you can see and try EVERY type of modern factory built Gyrocopter. It boasts a Gyro museum and sales showroom where you can "fly one, to try one, before you buy one" (we know it's a cheesey slogan, but it's fun :-))
Specialist Training Courses
We specialise in intensive training courses which run from Monday to Friday. We believe this is the most effective way to learn to fly. We also run Advanced Flying Training courses especially designed to help people advance their flying skills to that required by a Gyro Instructor.
An Instructor Breeding Ground
Speaking of Instructors, we are particularly suited to train people who dream of becoming a flying instructor one day. As well as providing you with a structured training program, we will also mentor you and encourage you to start your own Gyrocopter Experience flying school.
An Introduction to Gyrocopters
As well as pilot training, we also are keen to share our enthusiasm for Gyrocopters with everyone. Each Saturday we run special events to fly people who generally just want to experience the thrill of a Gyrocopter. But you have to book early, they're very very popular.
So, as the fat bloke in the video on the home page says...."Let's go fly!"
The York Experience Flight
This is our most popular flight. It starts with a tour of our museum and showroom, you can bring all your family and friends along (free of charge!). There will be up to 4 flyers on the event, and very quickly you will all get to know each other. We will provide a safety briefing, an understanding of how a Gyrocopter works and then each person with a pre-booked flight will spend around 30 minutes flying around York, hands on the controls - or off the control, the choice is yours! Add this flight to your shopping basket.
The York Extended Flight
This is ideally suited to people who already fly some other type of aircraft and who want to understand more about the unique characteristics of a Gyrocopter. This is a one to one experience which includes a more detailed understanding of the controls. It is generally more "hands on" than "hands off" the controls.
The Extended Flight is also good for people who want to enjoy the view but want to fly further than the local area, perhaps you want to fly close to your house! Come on down! The flight lasts about about an hour. Add this flight to your shopping basket.
The Ultimate York Gyrocopter Flight
This just has to be the best flight that you can have at York. It lasts around 90 minutes and it generally has a theme:
Whatever you want to do, I am sure that you will never forget the York Gyrocopter Ultimate flight. Add this flight to your shopping basket.
How it works!
If you would like to buy someone a gift of a flight, buying a Gyrocopter Experience Giftpack with flight voucher is the easiest way to proceed. The person receiving the gift can then book a specific time and date at a later stage. If you already have a voucher and would like to book a time and a date Redeem your voucher here
Alternatively if you want to book a date and time now then you can Book Direct Here. Go on...treat yourself...you wont regret it!
Gyrocopter Pilot Training
The Gyrocopter Experience - York does ALL it's pilot training as intensive courses. Each course will last 4 or 5 days and generally there are two students per instructor. This means that you will aim to fly 2-3 hours per day or 10-12 hours per week. Believe us, it is enough concentration for anyone.
Having a "buddy" on an intensive course has a number of advantages, not least, you have someone to share your excitement, frustration, exhiliration, and even more frustration as you progress through the course. There will be times when you know what you need to do, but you just cannot get your hands and feet to do it! Also, when you do something right - you have someone to tell; equally when you do something wrong, like a bouncy landing, you have someone to take the micky out of you!
It's a holiday!
One of our students once told us that "actually we supply activity holidays". What a cool thing to say. It's true, think of your training time here as part of your annual holiday, what a great way to spend your leisure time.
But there's more to learning than just flying!
As well as learning to control the aircraft you also need to learn some of the theory that goes along with it. We do that too. It's not scarey and we will help you through it.
Book your whole course
If you are new to flying, you will need about 6 courses. If you already have a licence then you are likely to require about 4 courses. We are very busy and generally booked up months in advance. You are advised to book your entire schedule early, even if you want to book just 2 weeks per year for the next 3 years. That way you will complete your course and join the merry gang of Gyronauts.
